Different types of cycle facilities

Standard Cycle Tracks A standard cycle track is a raised cycle track separated from traffic by a kerb, sometimes with a buffer, such as grass or paving.

Mandatory Cycle Lane A mandatory cycle track is marked with a continuous white line, which means only cyclists and riders are allowed to use it. Cars and other vehicles cannot enter, except to access driveways or specific areas.

Stepped Cycle Tracks A stepped cycle track is raised higher than the road but lower than the footpath, without a buffer. They typically have a low curb to separate the bike lane from motor traffic, providing cyclists with more defined space.

Mixed Traffic On mixed traffic streets, motor vehicles and cyclists share the road.

Protected Cycle Tracks Protected cycle tracks are cycle tracks physically separated from traffic using barriers like bollards, planters, or parking bays ensuring cyclists have a dedicated space that’s less vulnerable to vehicle intrusion.
